Nonpartisan Tiebreaker

There are five candidates running for four seats for the city council (the 4th place finisher gets a one-year term). Having a hard time deciding? Here's a nonpartisan tiebreaker. Only four of the candidates submitted answers to the League of Women Voters - Dane County Wisconsin. Jeffrey L. Wiswell, Sr. did not answer the League's questions. Candidates’ Answers

Only four of the candidates attended the candidates' forum (Going to the Candidates Debate). Lisa Jo VonAllmen did not attend the candidates forum.

As far as I am aware no explanation has been offered by either of them for these omissions. Lisa Jo reads this blog on occasion, so perhaps she will do so here.

Only Kathy Thomas, Dennis Kugle, and Chad Speight attended the forum and answered the League questions.

  1. Doug, I had some personal challenges during the days before and after this particular Sunday night and I was unable to attend the forum. I had been looking forward to it but sometimes private life does take precedence. Things have worked themselves out and all is well.

I've responded to all the other reporter inquires and have submitted my comments in writing a number of times.

I encourage anyone to contact me directly if they have any questions for me before or after the election.

    Good luck to all.

  2. Thanks. I think your absence may have given people the impression that you had decided you weren't that interested. As I recall there were not any signs of activity from your campaign at that point. Given our recent experience with an overstretched alder, your non-appearance may make some people nervous about your commitment.

  3. There may be an excuse for being unable to attend, but there is not an excuse for failing to notify the people who went to the time and effort to accomodate you on the forum that you would be a no-show. To be blunt, this was just inconsiderate and rude. Respect for the efforts of others is a necessary qualification for Council members.
