Monona Council Report

The two new member, Jim Busse and Mike Veserat were greeted with a relatively quiet meeting of the Monona city council last night. For the agenda and packets go to: City Council 5/4/09 Monday, May 04, 2009.


The council confirmed the mayor's committee assignments for the council members on a 5-1 vote (Alder Wiswell voting nay). See New Monona City Council Committee Assignments .

The council heard from Karen Wendt, Monona Public Library Youth Services Coordinator about the Horton Hears a Who Read-a-Thon! on May 14-15 at the library. I will be reading The Lorax

The council also recognized two new Eagle Scouts, Daniel Schmale and Austin Wienke.

And we received the Tree City recognition from DNR (Tree City USA—The Arbor Day Foundation). Finally, Rick Vollbrecht, Board President, Friends of the Monona Senior Center gave a presentation on the Friends (Click here to see their site.).

The council approved submitting an application to DNR Recreational Boating Facilities Grant Recreational Boating Facilities - WDNR The grant would fund up to 50% of the cost to dredge the channels at Belle Isle.

The council had an interesting presentation in a closed session with the CDA, but I cannot tell you anything interesting about it - yet.

Finally, the council confirmed a number of citizen appointments to city committees including two guys named Speight (
Committee on Family Attraction, Retention, and City Promotion) and Miller (Ad Hoc Monona Drive Committee & Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee), and Mari Anne Lichtfeld to the Census Count Ad Hoc Committee, Brian A. Grady to the Plan Commission, and Heidi Sigmund to the Committee on Family Attraction, Retention, and City Promotion.
