Governor Doyle included a comprehensive statewide indoor smoking ban in his executive state budget. The smoking ban would go into effect three months after passage of the budget. Given that the governor and both houses are all controlled by the same party, the word is that the state budget will pass early this year - possibly in May.
I am reliably informed, however, that the smoking ban will almost certainly be removed before the budget makes its way to passage. The smoking ban would then be introduced as a separate bill.
