  1. I received a comment 'not for publication' that asked about the legality of political yard signs being up more than 30 days in advance of an election.

Briefly, the city's yard sign ordinance is almost certainly unconstitutional. The city has been waiting for DOT to adopt a rule covering the same topic to piggyback on their legal research before taking any action on our ordinance. In the meantime, the mayor has declared a moratorium on enforcement.

  2. I received another not for publication post that related to assessed values.

By state statute, properties are assessed for their market value on January 1. Thus, if a property owner has done remodeling work that would increase the value of the property that will not be reflected until the following year.

  3. I've noticed lately that there a lot of idiots turning onto Winnequah from Monona Drive that skip the soft turn and make a hard right to avoid the recently installed stop sign.

  4. I live on Midmoor Rd, and I'd like to say that the communication we received from the city on things such as when we would be able to access our driveways was non-existent. We also had water shutoffs with little notice. It may seem a small inconvenience to not be able to park on your street or in your driveway, but when you don't know when it is going to happen, it forces you to park your car on another street most days just in case. We needed an appliance delivered and thank goodness it happened on a day when they could get to our driveway, but it could have just as easily gone the wrong way due to lack of communication with the residents. Also the scheduling of the oiling thing of Dean and Nichols at the same time Midmoor was being paved was especially poor planning and made it nearly impossible to get our of our neighborhood. No prior warning it was going to happen like that. The letter we got from the city last spring said we'd have dust control. I saw them watering our street to control dust exactly twice the entire summer. The street looks nice now and I am glad it was done but it has been a very long summer and it did not have to be like this.
