The rump committee (see Rump organization - Wikipedia) made an unofficial recommendation that the city pursue FOE grants for HVAC at all the city's main buildings (except the Public Works garage), solar heating for the outdoor pool, new windows at several city buildings, and LED lighting along Monona Drive. The city administrator will prepare a resolution(s) for consideration by Finance and the city council. The Focus on Energy staffer will also help the city prepare the applications.
The city will also be pursuing very-much-related American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding from a federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) through the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
What is Focus on Energy? From their web site:
Focus on Energy works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Focus information, resources and financial incentives help to implement projects that otherwise would not be completed, or to complete projects sooner than scheduled. Its efforts help Wisconsin residents and businesses manage rising energy costs, promote in-state economic development, protect our environment and control the state's growing demand for electricity and natural gas.
I've got a better idea than LED streetlights that will save much more money: take the existing lights and turn them off!
ReplyDeleteTurn off the street lights on a major street. Yeah, that's safe.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, streetlights designed to shine down and not emit excess light into the sky would be nice.
