Important Monona Plan Commission Meeting

On Monday, April 13, the Monona Plan Commission will take up several items of interest, especially to persons interested in chicken keeping and also the implementation of the smoke free ordinance with respect to 'outdoor' areas.

Tully's II proposes basically an open air patio. Bridge Lounge proposes a more enclosed smoking area, and the Village Lanes bowling alley proposal is yet more enclosed. Tully's II and the Bridge Lounge are on for decision. Village Lanes is making its initial appearance.

  1. Doug, what are your thoughts on the Tully's outdoor area? There are quite a few residences within 100-400 feet of the proposed area, and I would be concerned about noise if I were them. However, I don't really know how loud things would be because I don't know how many people can fit into the place (there's seating for 36 in their, but I don't know if people could stand too). And there are notes in their proposal for speakers, so I assume there would be music in the area.

While my gut would indicate this is a potential problem for the area, I don't want to condemn the idea without really understanding the ramifications.

Did anyone produce any basic information about the potential noise from the area? You would think there would be studies about what noise level 40 or so people would produce, and how the level would be over various distances.

Also, they want the outdoor area open until closing, which means the noise could potentially be there at 2:00 a.m. Not everyone has air conditioning and can close their windows at night. The late operation of the outdoor area would concern me as well.

    Thanks very much.
