There is an actual primary for the the open Dane County circuit court seat, branch 13. There are 3 candidates: Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen E. Ehlke and private attorneys Julie Genovese and Charles Schutze.
Who you got?
These are hard races to decide unless you actually know the candidates. The rules for running in judicial races limits the candidates to name, rank, and serial number. A peak at their supporters is interesting. Russ Feingold for Genovese, Ed Garvey for Ehlke. The race is Schutze's sixth try for judicial office. He doesn't list his supporters on his web site http://charlie4judge.com/index.html .
Ehlke has the endorsement of numerous law enforcement types, like the DA Blanchard and the Sheriff Mahoney as well as the law enforcement unions. You can judge for yourself whether that is a good thing. Personally, it makes me nervous because the criminal courts are heavily slanted in favor of the prosecution already.
