On Monday, December 15, the Monona council approved the application for a Low Power Frequency Modulation (LPFM) Radio License. The application can be prepared and ready to file when the FCC (Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Home Page) next opens an application window. We are fortunate to have some very talented and knowledgeable folks on radio communication in our fair burb.
The Council also learned that in fact Waterman Park will be used a skating rink this winter. The park was used for skating years ago and the Public Works and Parks Departments decided to try it again.
The council reviewed, but did not vote on the various capital amendments. That vote is set for January 5 (Monona Budget Vote Preview).
The Monona Parks Department is sponsoring a golf outing fundraiser on July 13, 2009 at University Ridge.
Including all taxing jurisdictions, the overall levy for Monona property owners is going up 9.7%, an increase of $1,950,000. The MG School levy is up $1,513,000 or 77% of the total increase. Some assessments went down this year, however, and that will directly impact your tax bill.
You can look at your property's assessed value and your 2008 taxes due on AccessDane. Tax bills from Monona are in the mail.

Great news on Waterman, thank you for following up on that I really appreciate it. Now I hope that the snow holds off enough for the ground to freeze.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know what percentage of assessments went down. Given the current economic climate, I find it hard to believe that any went up.
ReplyDeleteEither way, the city gets its money cause the levy goes up.
I think the overall assessments went down about 1% or 2%. Each property will vary. Most of the city's increase went for debt service - mainly roads.
