1832 - Third Lake Passage
On This Day: July 20
On this date during the Black Hawk War of 1832, Black Hawk led approximately 700 Sac, Fox and Kickapoo Indians through the juncture of the Yahara River and Lake Monona (then known as the Third Lake Passage) in present day Madison. It seems this would be a great place for a marker
ReplyDeleteAlso interesting to note that Abraham Lincoln mustered out of General Atkinson's militia on July 10, 1832 in Jefferson County, just days before the militia pursuit brought Black Hawk and his people to Four Lakes.
ReplyDeleteMost people aren't aware of Lincoln's role in the Black Hawk war.
