Can We Make Until January 20, 2009 Without Dying of Embarrassment?

Whatever Michelle Obama said about being proud of America, let me say I've never been as embarrassed to be an American as when the W-in-Chief pals around with fellow world leaders like it's a frat house kegger. Remember the shoulder squeeze to German Chancellor Angela Merkel (Cowboy George: Bush's unexpected squeeze of the German chancellor ...).

Shrubya was at it again this week when the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Phillipines came a callin' at the White House. Bush said he 'reminded that the President that he was reminded' just what swell folks these Filipino Americans are (Gee, thanks for reminding me). Why some of his best servants are Filipino Americans, don't you just know it?

He also commended the President on her "carrots and sticks" approach. That's right, "carrots and sticks", not carrot-and-stick like everyone else says it.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Madam President, it is a pleasure to welcome you back to the Oval Office. We have just had a very constructive dialogue. First, I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that -- in which there's a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage.
And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the -- of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)

PRESIDENT ARROYO: Yes.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And the chef is a great person and a really good cook, by the way, Madam President.

PRESIDENT ARROYO: Thank you.

That's not even satire - but this is:

  1. Gore Vidal recounts his conversation with G.H.W.Bush wherein Daddy Bush broke down and cried over what George was doing to the family name...and that Jeb's promise of the presidency was destroyed. Jeb was his father's favorite and now the lesser son was destroying any hope he had for Jeb.
Gore Vidal has been a prophetic voice for several generations of US readers of history.

  3. Really, this stuff is more embarrassing to you than Clinton being unable to keep it in his pants, and then further lacking the ability to be honest about it on national TV?

At least this guy can keep it in his pantS!11

  4. Maybe it's the respective contexts. Clinton: peace and prosperity. Bush: terrorist attack, war, war, break constitution, recession, and so on.

But, yeah, it's more embarrassing (and dangerous) having a disinterested nitwit as President than a philanderer.
