Here is the announcement from Heather Gates at TNS Monona:

GREEN TUESDAYS: Lectures & Films on Sustainability

An informal and fun series of lectures, films, and conversations on environmentally-friendly living will be presented at the Monona Public Library in the Forum Room. Called Green Tuesdays: Lectures & Films on Sustainability, the joint project of The Natural Step Monona and the library digs deeply into a variety of topics. The first Green Tuesday is January 8 at 6:30 p.m. The free series continues each Tuesday through January, and is open to the public.

The film Escape from Affluenza, on January 8, shows how to declare independence from rampant materialism and over-consumption. Using expert commentary, humor, and thought-provoking stories, the one-hour film shows the ecological costs of the American way of life, as well as how to reduce waste and conserve resources. Sharing of sustainable New Year’s resolutions follows the film. Kids as young as ten should find this engaging.

On January 15, Lisa MacKinnon, former Policy Director for 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, will focus on transportation and walk-able communities. MacKinnon will touch on regional and local transportation issues, the proposed Regional Transportation Authority, examples of successful low-emission systems and practices, and elements of pedestrian-friendly living.

On January 22, The Natural Step Monona member and Permaculture Design Course graduate, Kate Heiber-Cobb, speaks on Permaculture—the creation of agricultural systems that follow natural forms. In building ever more self-sufficient communities, the goal of Permaculture is to reverse processes that are fundamentally and systematically destroying earth's ecosystems.

The series concludes on January 29 with Gary Peterson, a city planner and student of The Natural Step framework, describing eco-municipalities—communities that make a collective commitment to sustainable change. Although Peterson spoke briefly on this topic at The Natural Step Monona’s event in September, many attendees asked for more. Peterson will show examples from Sweden, Copenhagen, Prague, and Vienna.
