According to a story about County Board attendance in the Wisconsin State Journal, Dale Suslick is not running for re-election.
The story states: Suslick, of Monona, said he isn 't running for a second term for the same reason he missed 15 board meetings...."We added our fourth child this past year, " Suslick said. "Combined with being a business owner, the demands of the job are more than I 'm willing to take on right now. "
The story also quoted Eileen Bruskewitz whining that tracking attendance was "very politically motivated". She missed 7 of 44 Board meetings since 2006, neither a great nor a horrible record, but Bruskewitz did miss the final budget vote this year. I'm scratching my head to figure out how tracking elected officials attendance is political.
The WSJ tallied all members attendance based on data provided by the County Clerk:
Entire County Board attendance record
The median number of absences was six out of 44 full board and committee of the whole meetings.
Missed 10 or more: Brown, Gau, Hanson, Jensen, Pertzborn, Richmond, Suslick, Wendt
6-9: Bruskewitz, de Felice, DeSmidt, Downing, Kumar, O'Loughlin, Schoer, Stubbs, Vogel, Wheeler, Willett
0-5: Bayrd, Erickson, Hendrick, Hulsey, Kostelic, Martz, Matano, McDonell, Miles, Opitz, Ripp, Rusk, Salov, Stoebig, Vedder, Veldran, Wiganowsky, Worzala

Small Idea.
ReplyDeletePost your attendance records for the council during your term and explain any extended MIAs..
This would prove to me it is not motivated by politics..
Attendance isn't political, it isn't conservative or it isn't liberal, it's just doing the job.
ReplyDeleteI checked the minutes on the city's web site (a laborious process) which has the city council minutes since Dec. 6, 2004. That covers some 81 council meetings. I missed four of those 81 meetings.
I hope you are happy now. Incessant badgering is political, whether tracking meetings is or not. Let it go. You've accomplished what you set out to do.
ReplyDeleteAttendance IS important. How is my board member or council member representing me or those who voted for them if they are not doing the work and honoring their commitment to attend the meetings?
ReplyDeleteMr Suslick is a nice guy - didn't vote for him but certainly gave him the benefit of the doubt. He was not up to the task.
I agree. Attendance is important. So is actually representing the interests of the people. I don't think that is always happening.
ReplyDeleteI find it humorous that Mr. Wood has been so upset lately about PD "tactics" and advertising his distaste for Mr. Suslick in this forum.
I can remember a few years back when he got very "political" about school district issues, in a very contrary position to what his constituents repeatedly expressed by vote. I wonder if he thinks that was "political".
It is important aggreed-that is why I am still waiting for Doug to explain those absences and the ones prior to 2004..
ReplyDeleteYet, feels like the old bone from the prior topic.

ReplyDeleteOK, what absences are you talking about? As I said I have missed 4 of 81 since Dec. 2004. I don't think that really calls for an explanation. Before that I probably missed a few meetings between April 2003 and Dec. 2004, but not many. I surely did not miss over 1/3 of the council meetings.
Let me try saying this again, attendance is not a partisan issue.
