UPDATE: BIFF BAM! BOOM! Three batters three homers for the Brewers inthe top of the first followed by two singles and the Reds' meatball pitcher gets an early shower. Starting the game with three homers had never been done by the visiting team before in major league history.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Another Ryan Braun homer and its 7-1 in the second inning....And YOU missed it because you were watching the Packers game, weren't you?
And one more update: I go out to mow the yard and when I come back in the score is 8-5! This sends a clear message about yard-mowing. But I really shouldn't have to feel so nervous with a three-run lead in the 7th....OK, on the 8th up 8-5.
Kaboom again. Johnny Estrada bangs a 2-run tater and the lead is 10-5. And that's the final score. Brewers start the road trip taking 2 out of three from the Redlegs.
Original Post
The Brewers are one day closer to October and still in a first place tie. I know that no one is thrilled by the way the Brewers got to a first-place tie on September 9 and, yeah, they are barely above .500, but really folks, it's been 25 years since Milwaukee had a team in the post-season - isn't about time to get a little excited?
And it looks like they are interested in sticking around - the Brewers are tied with the Mets for the best NL record over the past 10 games (7-3). Not a huge accomplishment, but they have pulled the nose up for the time being. The Brewers have Sheets going today while the Cubs have Steve Trachsel going against Matt Morris of the Pirates in a match-up of washed up has-beens.
By the way, in the event of a tie in NL Central, here's where the one-game playoff would be played: The Cubs would host the Brewers, the Brewers would host the Cardinals, and the Cardinals would host the Cubs.
Twenty-two days and counting. It's a pennant race.
