  3. Any updates to the situation for the Hickory Lane residents situation?

What happened to the resolution to assist the residents you co-authored?

You were on the council then and now. You mentioned deju vu in a previous blog here.

  4. Q: Any updates to the situation for the Hickory Lane residents situation?

To my knowledge, the Johns never completed the sale of the park to Metcalfe Company. My guess is that the deal fell through because of the soft condo market. As was clear at the time, the Johns simply panicked when they kicked everybody out, for reasons that are unclear.

Peter and I let the resolution die because the staff did do a lot of work holding resource meetings and bringing the social services to those meetings. On the down side, there are not many resources out there for situations like this one. Since the deal has never happened there is no money for the former residents.

A: Most researchers have concluded that dogs like the smell of the outside air better than human breath; no doubt, this phenomonen is true in your case.

However, this does not necessarily mean that your breath stinks. To keep things in perspective, bear in mind the things that dogs enjoy sniffing.

Related Q: Who are Marv and Marion Schumacher? Marv Schumacher was on the Village Board from 1959 to 1968 when Monona became a city. He then served on the city councilfor two years and served as Mayor from 1971 to 1976.

  10. Q: Kyoto Doug,
    blah, blah, blah.

A: You, ANNOY-mous, only get one question. I'm not telling you which one and the answer is 'No'.

Why don't you sign up for an account and at least post with a pen name instead of plain old anonymous?

  11. First-I do appreciate your willingness to answer questions and you do "put your self out there" with this blog.

    Good Stuff.

However, you labled this post wrong. Consider "Random question that I am comforable with and from only anonymous posters that seem like they support me politically."

    That would be more accurate.

  12. Sort of Q: However, you labled this post wrong. Consider "Random question that I am comforable with and from only anonymous posters that seem like they support me politically."

    A: That's not even a question!

More to the point, it's my blog. I could just delete your comments into oblivion! Ohhhh, the power!!! I think it's pretty dang nice of me to even let political critics post here at all.

Is it really too much to ask you to get a pen name if you want to be a serial 'poster' here? It's free and takes about 2 minutes to sign up.

  14. Hey Doug, nice blog.

Ok here is one of my areas of interest. Find out more info about ice skating areas in Monona.

I have had SO many people ask me why we don't "just flood" the green space over by the Ice Cream / Bait Shop.

When I tell people that we have discussed this at Park Board and the city won't just flood the areas like we used to do I feel like I'm at a loss because I can't answer them specifically about why we won't do it. I am not clear as to what the opposition is to this or the other areas we used to use for ice skating.

So this is really 2 questions… Identify the areas where skating has taken place in the past and 2nd Q is why can’t we use those locations anymore like we did in years past.

Any info you could share with us about this topic would be appreciated. Thanks!

  15. Q:Ice skating areas in Monona.

Why we don't "just flood" the green space over by the Ice Cream / Bait Shop?

I have to admit I don't remember why staff said we stopped doing flooding that area. The focus has been on doing something in Winnequah Park near the shelter.

I don't think that you just flood an area without putting in a clay liner. We can bring this up again at a Parks Board meeting.

The only skating area I even vaguely remember besides the lagoon was when a hockey rink was set up near the lagoon (or am I confusing that with Vilas park - anyway it was a long time ago). I'm told Oneida and Waterman Park (by the Bait Shop) were used for skating at one time.

  16. Absolutely there was a rink at Watermn Way. The berm that held the water in is still there. You don't need a clay liner or any such thing. The ground freezes in the winter, so water will not soak in. People with flat yards sometimes do their own rinks. It's not a big deal.
