Nope, it's not true

Today's Hellooo Monona column relates that someone called and said they were upset that two high-ranking city officials were laughing at the fact that the Board of Review completed its work and no one got a reduction in their assessment.

Heck yeah, I was upset when I read that - and then I recalled that in my ten years as Chair of the Board of Review the Board always reduced some assessments at least a little in those years when we got any appeals.

And that was the case again this year. It took me about two minutes to check the city web site and look at the minutes of the Board of Review from June 11, 2007. It looks to me like about 6 people got their assessments reduced, which was roughly one-third of the appeals. Hmm, perhaps some fact-checking would have spared us this misleading slam on (unnamed, of course) city officials.

  1. Of course you should point out the refreshing change we find with Sunny's column in this weeks H-I. Imagine, a column that answers questions by doing a little research into the issues involved!

  2. I also enjoyed Sunny's column, but isn't it kind of weird that the H-I does not use bylines for these columns? I don't know the Cottage Grove Lady's name and they shouldn't assume that everyone just recognizes their pictures.

  3. Call or email the editor if you are unhappy with Hello Monona. They won't stop printing her slander and innuendo until there are enough complaints.

  4. Absolutely- Sunny's column is great- and really clear- and we should let the editor know what a great change this is- and that he should replace one with the other. I agree with Doug though, he should not assume that we all know both of these women.
