The CIA has put two conflicting sides of America on display by releasing "the family jewels", a boatload of documents detailing the agency's illegal dirty deeds from the 1960's and 1970's, like spying on American citizens and kidnapping. On the one hand, the documents simply prove the American government's capacity for illegal black operations. At the same time, the release of the documents demonstrates a commitment to the rule of law over the long haul. Of course, that these documents should be released under this Administration only heightens the sense of cognitive dissonance.
