The Monona common council approved the acquisition of the Garden Circle properties by a vote of 5-1 on Wednesday evening. Alder Suslick voted no. By unifying the ownership it should be easier to redevelop the site.
I expect that redevelopment of that parcel will have positive effects on surrounding parcels and could lead to some partnering with other area property owners along Monona Drive. It is not a decision without some risk, but the risk was greater and more certain if we did not act.
Kudos to the Mayor, the city attorney, the CDA, and the whole team for nimbly putting together this package in short order. We had good data and analyses which removed a lot of the guesswork for me.
Now the real work begins.

What was Suslick's problem?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, but he wasn't foaming like some folks.
ReplyDeleteso you watched the meeting and he voted no and he didn't state clearly why he was doing that? Seems to be normal behavior for him. I wonder if he is more useful on the county board than on the monona council where he never contributes anything to the debate or conversation.
ReplyDeleteI hesitate to speak for him, but I understood Alder Suslick to say that the price was too high, it was being done too quickly, and would not really solve any problems.
ReplyDeleteNice comments people. Please feel free to give me a call at 575-5511 to discuss. If you watched the meeting Monday and Wednesday you would clearly hear my reasons why I voted no. Which, thanks Doug, you did cover three out of several reasons I stated. I'll post more thoughts later. Right now business and the wife and 4 kids are calling.
ReplyDeletePlease keep the constructive criticism coming, I'll take it, it is the only way to improve, sign a name as well. It helps so I can follow up with you.
The Council and County Board is a learning experience and it will take time before I am as well spoken or knowledgeable as the other experienced Council members. That being said, I give 110% and am proud of what I add to the Council and the Board with my unique style or personality.
Thanks again Doug, Dale Suslick 575-5511
Dale, if you are struggling to learn your offices, then how about you just try one at a time? If you have work and family demands, then one elected office should be plenty for you and I think people are starting to worry if you can really serve us well in both given that they are very different.
