In fact, I think one of the photos shows the last short section of unpaved street in front of Walgreen's (except for the driveway gaps that ned to be filled in).
Can anyone identify this strange sliver of concrete?? |
The last unpaved section of street is right where it belongs - under the paver. |
The stone street signs are attractive but won't piles of snow from plowing hide them?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, maybe for part of the winter. It's Wisconsin, a lot of nice stuff gets covered up by snow. It will make us appreciate them all the more when the snow melts.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a pretty cavalier answer, dontcha think? Street signs aren't for decoration - they are to help people find streets who are unfamiliar with the area. And if it's like the last two winters they will be obscured for three months.
ReplyDeleteWe do have winter here and maybe we need to take that into account. The bump outs on Winnequah are another example of failing to wonder what will happen when it snows...just sayin'...oh and the unheatable shelter...just sayin'....ok, I'll stop. Don't get mad, Doug. You know we love you.
I thought it was more flippant than cavalier. IT does get a bit old at times whne no matter how well a project goes, any preceived imperfection is what some people want to (anonymously) talk about.
ReplyDeleteI'm checking wit staff whether we are planning to install regular street name signs in addition to the stone markers. If the snow becomes a problem we can always add those signs at low cost.
ReplyDeleteThe shelter is heated, but the architect screwed up and designed a three-season building without adequate insulation for water pipes or the building.
Ahem. I have also anonymously posted positive things. But here's another one - it looks really, really great (and I think the I said the stone things look good too - just worry about the poor pizza delivery kid). Most excellent decision to bury the utilities. It is really amazing how good it looks when those disappear. For every one who worked so hard over the years to see this happen, it must be really rewarding to see what an improvement this will be for our city in spite of all the crap they took along the way.
ReplyDeleteI've often seen crews (don't know if they're city or county) with bobcats to take out the snow banks at street corners. These might be blocked for a little while, but probably not that long.
