Here's a message I received from Senator Russ Feingold about President Obama's plan:
I wanted to take a moment to share my thoughts on President Obama's plan for Afghanistan with you. I do not support the president’s decision to send additional troops to fight a war in Afghanistan that is no longer in our national security interest. It’s an expensive gamble to undertake armed nation-building on behalf of a corrupt government of questionable legitimacy. Sending more troops could further destabilize Afghanistan and, more importantly, Pakistan, a nuclear-armed state where al Qaeda is headquartered. While I appreciate that the president made clear we won’t be in Afghanistan forever, I am disappointed by his decision not to offer a timetable for ending our military presence there. I will work with members of both parties and both houses of Congress to push for a flexible timetable to reduce our troop levels in Afghanistan, as part of a comprehensive strategy to combat al Qaeda in the region and around the world.I will continue to speak out in favor of a flexible timetable for withdrawal, and I’m counting on you to help spread the word. If you haven't already done so, please take a moment and sign my petition supporting a flexible timetable for withdrawal. I’ll keep you updated on the next steps, and what you can do to make sure our message is heard.Sincerely,
Russ FeingoldUnited States Senator
Honestly, you expected something different with President Obama? I wrned you that it was not real change-you called me a chicken.
ReplyDeleteI did vote for the guy, but he/we are undercontrol of that thing that President Eisenhower talked about-way back when.
Only a third party candidate is going to change things and it will take a major event to ahve it take hold.
I called you a chicken? Do you not realize that 'chicken' is a term of endearment? (Like when Lenny Bruce used the "m---er f---er" and argued it was sometimes term of endearment).

But, yes, I recall the warnings and I bought too much 'hope'. However, I did state that I "worry that Afghanistan may become Obama's quagmire".

IMHO, that speech was more fitting of a cold warrior from the olden days-just don't know what to think-your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean his Orwellian 'just war' speech he gave at the 'peace prize'. It was b-a-a-a-d.
ReplyDelete"I assume you mean his Orwellian 'just war' speech he gave at the 'peace prize'. It was b-a-a-a-d."
ReplyDeleteI will elaborate, yes. The speech does NOT seem fitting of the image he has projected during his campaign or his presidency.
The speech would have been something that McCain might have done....but then McCain has some basis or experience for giving such a speech. Hell, George Jr. would have given that speech and everyone on the left would have laughed...his father would never have talked like that even in the time of war.
For O to give that speech in that forum is bad, sad and strange. It would make great campaign fodder for a leftist candidate or far right candidate running for president in a few years.
