Monona Speed Data

Here is the most recent data collected by Monona PD. Traffic Speed and Traffic Stats 11-11-09

The data shows a significant speeding problem in April at Maywood/Winnequah where as many as 10% of drivers are more than 10 mph over the speed limit (i.e. they were traveling 35 mph). Speeds had dropped by early October. Lesser problems, but still problems, farther south on Winnequah. Very few speeding problems at other locations have been detected so far.

The speed and traffic data was collected by using a Radar Traffic Classifier. Drivers do not know their speed is being collected.

  1. Doug-
I surprised by how small the sample is of streets.

On Femerite people really little it rip, as they do on the upper part of frost woods and heck I have seen folks on Dean cookin.

On a percentage basis-I would bet my poop eating dog against your kayak that Dean, Frost Woods and Femerite beat Winnuquah by quite a bit. They will have bigger speeding problem by quite a bit percentage over 10 mph.

If I am reading this right...there is not much of a speeding problem ....currently. I know we would like to see everyone obeying the law around speeding but what is the goal here 0%?

At the end of the day...citizen's arrests, hot wheels radar gun and chase car might be the way to go.

    thanks for the data

  2. Interesting. For all the belly aching about the Winnequah Rd redesign, it appears there is a correlation between the new part of the road and reduced speeds? By Maywood Park, the numbers are out of line, but as you progress toward the first "choker" the speeds are reduced at 5803 Winnequah which is right at the first part of the redesigned roadway, correct? And then by the time you're in the 6200 block there appears to be no significant speeding issue. Do I have this correct? If so, why would we need to place speed bumps below Maywood Park? Ironically, despite complaints the mayor has his own agenda because of the location of his home, the worst problem is near his home - not where he proposed the speed bumps.
