Question Time - Updated

Hey, just like Parliament, it's question time but without the shouting or the Prime Minister or BBC. This is your chance to be Kanye West, but I'm not as nice (or cute) as Taylor Swift.

No lie. (By the way, did the You Lie Guy really mean 'you lie boy'? Maureen Dowd thought so and said so.)

Post a question Monona, please.

Here's a couple. Should the Brewers fire Ken Macha? Will they? I'd say 'no' and 'probably not'. The Brewers slipped because they lost their two best starters from 2008 (Sheets and CC). They had a rotation with no established number one pitcher. And then we watched in dismay as Bush and Suppan wracked up time on the DL and Manny Parra regressed. And now Gallardo is struggling.

Macha didn't cause this scenario and firing Macha won't fix any of that. I think Brewers management is smart enough to figure that out. BUT, unlike the former owner, the Attanasio will not sit back and twiddle his thumbs hopelessly. Doug Melvin may be more at risk than Macha, but really folks, they have the hitting, their defense is better, they ditched Bill Hall, and found Casey McGehee. Get some starters, avoid this plague of injuries, and they can be back in bidness.

  4. "When is the south end of the Monona Drive construction planned to end?"

The last I heard (about 10 days ago), the answer was 'yes'. The project will be shut down in mid-to-late-October. We will have four lanes open again until next spring. Phase One is to be completed next construction season.

    Yes.

(I assume you are speaking literally and not metaphorically.)

Many scientists expect cockroaches will inherit the Earth after we get done abusing it (ha, suckers!), so you may want to go easy on the killing thing.

In the event of nuclear war, the common fruit fly will probably outperform the roaches.

It's like real estate: location, location, location. About 400 miles separation works well.

Re. the Brewers -- ...and they lost Rickie Weeks a third of the way through the season, when he was on his way to a career year and finally living up to his potential. Lopez helped, and has been pretty good at the plate, but he's a realy defensive liability.

I think the central dilemma for the Brewers is that they risk giving up one of their real studs -- like Prince -- to get just one front-line starter (and with no LaPorta waiting in the wings, dispatched for the Sabathia rental). I don't think Hardy and/or Hart, presumably dispensable now, are going to fetch much. Looper and Gallerdo are worthing hanging on to, and I'm willing to be patient with Parra, because lefties are rare. But they need two solid, 15-win starters.

  8. Re: the You Lie Guy, I think the important thing about that debate is not the answer to the question of whether an unspoken "boy" was implied, but rather the question itself, because that's at the root of today's racism - people of color can never really know whether a situation they are dealing with is based on racism or not. One of the many white privileges I have is that I don't have to deal with that and I sure as heck am not gonna tell a person of color that a problem they are dealing with is NOT based in racism.

  9. Why give your mother-in-law that power? My sister-in-law doesn't like me, or maybe she's playing games, who know, who cares. I decided to not like her, and not care what she thinks of me. It is very empowering if you look at it that way. Who needs negative energy in their life.

My comment: Whoa! Let's not conflate mothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Siblings-in-law can generally be easily and safely ignored. Whole different deal with the ma-in-law.

    And what about fathers-in-law?

    You go on to say:

"I decided to not like her, and not care what she thinks of me. It is very empowering if you look at it that way. Who needs negative energy in their life."

Hate to rain on the proverbial parade, but aren't you being a scosh negative when you just up and decide not to like her? Sisters-in-law have feelings too, you know.

(And to save all of us some time and angst, this comment is made with tongue planted firmly in cheek.)

Doug, I have to agree with you dislike someone or not liking brings about a lot of negative energy in the brain- I have tried to accept or just look at someone and say you are interesting OR why did GOD bring you to me today. Also, I have some issue with my mother-in-law as well.

Have told you about the time, she gave two jars of canned beef?

Anonymous, is this translated from the original Russian? And doesn't 'canned beef' come in a 'can' rather than a 'jar.'

But, no, do tell me about the canned beef.

    Feeling picky. Yours truly, MD

  13. Has there been any thought to having some type of better control to the yard waste dump site? I have been there several times and often wonder about the caste of characters dumping materials in our dumpsters.

We have considered it, but having it staffed during hours of operation would cost a lot more than we would save.
