Monona PD Commendations

Monona Police Chief Walter Ostrenga recently announced the following Chief's Departmental Commendations for exceptional service and performance by members of the Monona Police Department. The full monthly report: Police Monthly Reports, May & June 2009

Detective Jack A. Jasensky and Officer Brian A. Voltz received a Chief’s Departmental Commendation for locating and arresting a subject on June 24th, 2009, responsible for the sexual assault of a 14 year old girl from McFarland that occurred on June 15th. They also worked together during a formal interview where the subject confessed to the crime. As a result of their actions a violent criminal has been taken into custody.

Sergeant Ryan J. Losby, Officer Matthew D. Bomkamp and TCM Ashley L. Sweeney
received a Chief’s Departmental Commendation for their work in solving a Bank Robbery that occurred at the Guaranty Bank, 6540 Monona Drive on May 6th, 2009. This was truly a team effort with TCM Sweeney linking information from a teletype from a bank robbery in Sheboygan on May 8th to our May 6th robbery. This led to a follow up investigation with key evidence recovered by Sergeant Losby and Officer Bomkamp to allow charges to be filed in our robbery.

Officer Adam M. Nachreiner, Officer Jared J. Wedig and Officer Luke R. Wunsch
received a Chief’s Departmental Commendation for their involvement in a traffic stop on April 29, 2009. The person stopped attempted to hide a large quantity of heroin by swallowing a plastic baggie and passed out with a blocked airway. The officers gently guided her to the ground and began to work as a team to try to revive the subject using CCR and the AED. The obstruction was only able to be removed by Madison Paramedics using medical instruments, and unfortunately the subject passed away a few days later.

Officers Wedig, Nachreiner and Wunsch
are to be commended for their quick reaction to her condition and their attempts to save her life. Unfortunately without advanced medical training and specialized tools there was no possible way for them to help her in a timely manner.
