After public input and committee discussion lasting nearly two hours, the Public Safety Committee voted to table the chicken keeping ordinance until their March 25 meeting.
A motion was initially made to approve the ordinance subject to a requirement that structures housing chickens be subject to the same code provisions that apply to accessory structures. The Committee decided it wanted to take a closer look at the amendment language before voting on it. My sense was that the committee would have approved the motion, but I did not take that as necessarily meaning that they wanted the council to pass the ordinance. Their task is to review the ordinance within the purview of their committee's building code and other duties.
