The prairie over the Aldo Leopold Nature Center - Home is putting on quite a late summer show. Check out the freakishly tall compass plants with yellow blooms and the smaller prairie coneflowers. Don't miss the big bluestem prairie grass. Walking in the mowed corridors with these plants towering above gave me a different perspective on what it might have been like to travel across the prairie. With even a small amount of patient observation you are highly likely to see a Gold Finch (All About Birds: American Goldfinch).
The photos are examples I found on the web, mostly WDNR.
