The Iraq war wasn't about the oil - noooo, it was about WMD, err, Saddam was a bad guy, ummm, fightin' al-Qaeda (or was that spreading al-Qaeda to Iraq?).
Well, maybe it was the oil all along:
Deals With Iraq Are Set to Bring Oil Giants Back (NYT requires registration)
"Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP — the original partners in the Iraq Petroleum Company — along with Chevron and a number of smaller oil companies, are in talks with Iraq’s Oil Ministry for no-bid contracts to service Iraq’s largest fields, according to ministry officials, oil company officials and an American diplomat."

Or maybe we were there to spread Shari’a law:
A Blackwater sister-company is using Shari’a law to shield itself from liability for the deaths of three US servicemen.
Patriotism for broccoli, for selling weapons to defend your vegetables, for killing and maiming for tomato democracy would be a hard sell...there just isn't any money in that kind of freedom!
ReplyDeleteNow oil...black gold...texas tea...that's food for weaponry.
And now the House Dems caved in on FISA. Pelosi has to go, i.e. her craven style of leadership may have been all we could hope for in years past, but we need new leadeership.
