A commenter to a previous post asked about landscaping as part of the Monona Drive project. The Monona City Council approved the plan on May 5, 2008. You can see the plans at Draft of Monona Drive Streetscape Plans.
Here is a December 2007 summary of the first phase of Monona Drive project. The preliminary landscape plans in this summary have been superseded by the council action above.

I think the choice of ginkgo trees is a great one.
ReplyDeleteThey are mentioned in the bible-don't you know.
Wow, this is going to be great. I can't wait to see the results.w
ReplyDeleteWill Monona Drive still be 4 lanes? I like the vegetation, but how will it be squeezed in and maintain the existing lanes?
ReplyDeleteNot only will Monona Drive have 4 lanes, but it will also have protected left-turn bays for many businesses especially between Owen Road and Nichols.
ReplyDeleteEven during construction Monona Drive will have three lanes: one lane NB and one lane SB and one TWLTL lane (for 'two way left turn lane').
One lane each way? Can you imagine all the traffic we have now when it is crammed into one lane? People will find other routes. No wonder the businesses on the drive are worried, including the bars that are about to get slammed with a smoking ban.
ReplyDelete"One lane each way?"
ReplyDeleteNo, one lane each way PLUS a shared lane for left turns. We are paying extra bucks for the turn lane.
If you have a way to reconstruct the roadway and keep 4 lanes open at all times, I'd like to see it.
Have a question-what will the road look like this Winter?
ReplyDeleteWon't those patches just blow out the first thaw?
