An update from City Engineer Rich Vela.
A brief update on current projects:
Lake Edge Sedimentation Basin
Due to delays in receiving materials, the contractor will not begin work until early next week (week of May 19th).
Winnequah Road Paving
The paving subcontractor, Frank Bros., has indicated that the pavement correction on Winnequah Road may occur either next week (week of May 19th) or the following week (week of May 26th).
Pavement modification will occur at the following intersections: Moygara Rd., Owen Rd., Frost Woods Rd, and Greenwood St. Pavement modification will occur due to the uneven pavement surface and/or unacceptable pavement thickness.
2008 Street and Utility Improvements
Work has started on the watermain replacement on Midmoor Road between Winnequah Road and West Dean Avenue.
There is a link on the City website (Monona) (look for the orange cone) where frequent updates on project progress, schedule and information will be posted.
Ahuska Park
The tennis court lighting apparently has suffered a direct lightening strike. This has damaged a few light ballasts and bulbs. In addition, a relay in the lighting controller was fried. Therefore, the lighting at the tennis courts and the parking lot at Ahuska Park will not automatically turn on and off. These lights can be manually turned on and off by activating the override switches. Therefore, until we can get a new relay, the parking lot lights will not be on at night and the tennis court lights will have to be manually turned on and off.

Speaking of the Midmoor Road project, this is great time to remind everyone that when the signs say "Road Closed" this means that the ROAD IS CLOSED! This means it is closed to everyone except those who are going to a destination in the closed portion.
ReplyDeleteNot only is it presumptuous to think you are the one person this sign doesn't apply to, but every time you come down my street, you kick up the Dust Bowl in your wake. It's rude - please take the minute it takes you to go a different way.
How much does the city spend for power for the lights at Ahuska park? For that matter how much do we spend on electricity for streetlights?
ReplyDeleteDoug, what's the deal with the so-called "fix" of some of the traffic chokers on Winnequah? The intersection at Winnequah and Frostwoods is a MESS and we saw a number of bicyclists almost get hit by traffic on the main part of the street. Whomever is doing the pavement rework at that intersection is negligent in getting it completed (it has been sitting there with the barricades for almost three weeks with no work done!). I asked Kathy Thomas and Bob Miller why the delay, and they told me they were wondering the same thing. Time to fire these contractors and get someone in there who will be more diligent in getting the work done in a timely, safe manner. Who is the contractor, and why doesn't the Council take action?

Fred,
ReplyDeleteI share the question about why the work was started and then stopped. The contractor is Homburg. (I don't know if they subbed the concrete curb work or not.)
I passed your comment along to the Mayor, City Administrator, and City Engineer.
