Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues

"This is a segment from D. A. Pennebaker's film, Dont Look Back (a documentary on Bob Dylan's tour of England in 1965). In the film, Dylan holds up cue cards for the audience with words from the song on them. While staring at the camera, he flips the cards as the song plays. Interestingly, there are intentional errors throughout the video. For instance, the song's lyrics say "eleven dollar bills," but the poster says "20 dollars". The video takes place in an alley behind The Savoy Hotel in London where poet Allen Ginsberg makes a cameo appearance."

  1. Why all of the outpouring of love toward Bob?

  2. The posting Bob Dylan videos should be self-explantory! He was one the greatest during his folk music iteration. And besides I got Maggie's Farm stuck in my head; one of my favorite songs back in the 70's.

  3. Well, this place did rock...a while back. The level of discourse has reached a level of non-existance.

So-if I get pictures of the underground chickens living in Monona.

Do you me to send them to you?
So that you know-I am not kidding.
I will scratch out the address-do not want the owners of the chicks to have egg on their faces.

  4. I have a question about the smoking ban. Will it be enforced with as much vigor as it is in the skate board park? If so, bars have nothing to worry about. Funny thing is there are actual children at the skate park. Where is the concern for them?

  5. And how does this relate to Bob Dylan?

I know I shouldn't indulge people who can't follow the guidelines, but I'll answer your smoking question anyway.

There is no smoking ban at the skatepark. There is a sign that asks park users not to smoke. City ordinances do not prohibit smoking outdoors in parks.

Yes, there are kids there, but you see, the skatepark is outdoors, i.e. not in a confined space, so the health risks from second-hand smoke are non-existent.

  6. Forgot to address enforcement. Based on the experience elsewhere, the ban will become self-enforcing after a very short time. According a bar owner with smoking ban experience, enforcement is a non-issue, except for the occasional out-of-towner who doesn't know about a ban. Sort of like when a Wisconsin smoker goes to Illinois or Minnesota or Iowa or Nebraska or....

  7. You are right, this is your blog-my question wasn't following your guidelines and I appreciate that you took time to answer my question. I wrongly assumed it was turning into an open thread because of the ongoing chicken discussion.

If you'll permit me to comment: At recent soccer games I often see elementary school kids sitting directly next to adult smokers on the ramp. I can smell the smoke which means I'm breathing it, right? Friends who play tennis often complain about the smoking (and sometimes alcohol drinking) from the skate park.

Why can't smoking be banned at the skate park? I don't want to put words in your mouth, but do you support their right to smoke at the skate park?

Thank you in advance for posting this question.

  8. Q: Why can't smoking be banned at the skate park?

A: Well, it could be, but why single out the skatepark? Of course, if the smokers are under 18, it is illegal and they could be given a citation.

Q: I don't want to put words in your mouth, but do you support their right to smoke at the skate park?

A: This kind of 'gotcha' comment is discouraging.

Treating smoking outdoors like indoor smoke is an example opf whta Emerson called a 'foolish consistency.' They do not remotely present the same health risk.

  9. HANG ON!

Do you mean to tell me that our house is NOT in ORDER and we are asking for a ban?

    pot and kettle

Further, last I checked the park must of em should not be smoking anyway.

  10. Post your smoking comments, so to speak, at new post on the smoking committee.

Last try. What do you not understand about this: smoking indoors exposes other people to the hazards of your smoke. Bad for the health of others.

Smoking outdoors is bad for your health, but not for others. Your dumb choice, but does not require a law to protect others from your dumb choice.

  11. Dam! I saw "8 comments" on a Dylan thread. In Monona! I was so excited! Then I clicked and it's about the freaking chickens and the smoking ban. sigh.

I think we should smoke chickens. or something else. hey - there we go! Wanna have some fun, Doug? How about you propose to decriminalize you-know-what. Holy cow. That will get some panties in a knot.
