Water Levels

City Engineer Rich Vela sent out this information this morning.

"I am monitoring the level of Lake Monona through the current storm event.

· Lake Monona lake level information:
o 04/10/2008 845.58 current lake level (3:30 p.m.)
o 04/04/2003 844.00 record minimum
o 04/04/1993 846.07 record maximum
o 04/04/xxxx 844.95 average for the date
o 08/21/2007 846.30 lake level when sandbagging efforts began in 2007

As can been seen, the lake level is currently approximately 0.72 feet (about 9 inches) below the level at which sandbagging efforts started last summer.

Since Tuesday April 8, the lake level has risen approximately 4 inches. I expect the lake to continue rising through the duration of the storm, at what rate I do not know. I have placed a call to Kevin Connors of Dane County to update him on where we stand and that he needs to watch how he is managing the lakes as we are not that terribly far from potential flooding issues. We should be OK tonight. I will continue monitoring the situation.

I have also left a message with Megan Nicholson concerning this. She is the contact person for the Belle Isle area.

I believe that if the lake level gets above 846.00, then we need to be on alert for beginning preparations for sandbagging operations."
