Lake Monona water level

A message from city engineer Rich Vela. You can also get more info at Lake Information & Levels:

As of 3:15 p.m. today (Friday April 25, 2007), the elevation of Lake Monona is 846.27. This is practically the same elevation of Lake Monona when the City initiated the supply of sandbags and sand to Belle Isle last August.

This afternoon, DPW delivered sandbags and sand to the Belle Isle and Interlake areas. The Oakhill corrections facility has been notified that their services may be needed in the near future to assist in sandbagging efforts. I do not believe that these services will be needed this weekend or into the first half of next week.

We have pumps at the Nishishin Trail and Pocahontas Drive locations since the storm sewer outfalls are plugged due to the lake level being higher than the streets in these areas. The pumps are in good operating condition. Extra gasoline accompanies each pump. In addition, we have been pumping the water out of Oneida Park for two weeks now.

I spoke with Kevin Connors of Dane County concerning lake levels. Given the upcoming weather patterns for the near future, he doesn’t anticipate the Lake Monona water level raising a significant amount above the current level. I informed him that because of the rising lake level and the absence of freeboard, sandbags and sand was being delivered to the Belle Isle and Interlake areas. He does not anticipate the Lake Monona water elevation to be significantly reduced anytime soon.
