Monona Drive News

At a meeting on February 1, Tom Lynch of Strand Associates, the consulting engineer on the Monona Drive project presented a revised 15-month (2009-2010) construction schedule for Phase 1 of the Monona Drive project. The project would be built in stages.

Note: This schedule is still subject to revision the consultant and city staff are evaluating whether the utility work could be advanced possibly to 2008, which would enable the project to finish earlier.

Stage 1 August 1 to ~October 5, 2009
Three Lanes Open (one each way with a TWLTL)
• Construct Parking Lot Modifications (Both sides)
• Construct Retaining Wall by Church and Apartments
• Construct 17.5 to 20 feet of temporary paving for Stage 2

Winter ~October 5 to March 10, 2010
• Four lane open to traffic during winter



Stage 2 ~March 10 to ~June 30, 2010
Three Lanes Open (one each way with a TWLTL)
• Remove existing southbound roadway
• Install 5000' of sewer and 60 laterals in 20 working days
• Install 5000' of water main and 60 laterals in 15 working days
• Install 5000' of storm sewer and laterals in 22 working days
• Construct new southbound lanes and sidewalk
• Construct 6' of temporary paving for Stage 3


Stage 3 ~June 30 to ~September 20, 2010
Three Lanes Open (one each way with a TWLTL)
• Removes existing northbound roadway
• Finish 30 sewer laterals in 6 working days
• Finish 30 water laterals in 6 working days
• Finish storm sewer inlet laterals and connections
• Construct new northbound lanes and sidewalk


Stage 4 ~September 20 to November 4, 2010
Four Lanes Open
• Constructs median and turn lanes
• Striping and pavement marking
• Planting and finishing could occur in fall.
