College Football - the Day After

The day after Thanksgiving that is. The Flutie game in 1984 was one of the first big games I recall being played on the day after Thanksgiving. It was an amazing bit of tackle football (the tackling left a bit to be desired). ESPN Classic showed the game in the wee hours of Thanksgiving Day, but my TIVO was up early.

The game didn't just feature an improbable ending. The action was up and down the field all day. Future NFL stars Bernie Kosar and Bill Romanowski played for Miami and Jimmy Johnson was in his first year as head coach. Final score 47-45.

And today we got another classic as Arkansas knocked off LSU on its way to another national championship. LSU Les Miles is rumored to be headed to Michigan, but earlier this week said he was only focused on beating Arkansas. Except he pronounced it R-ˈkan-zəs. Like the state of Kansas, with an R-sound in front. OurKansas?

Anyway, Arkansas beat LSU 50-48 in triple OT. West Virginia versus Ohio State in the BCS championship game?

Miles is a bit of a wacko and YouTube all-star. He has an odd way of speaking - crazed, maniacal even. Then there was the idiot Nick Saban comparing his Alabama team's loss to the U. of Louisiana at Monroe to the 9/11 and Pearl Harbor attacks. Guy's a snake. Tomorrow Alabama plays Auburn in the Iron Bowl. War Eagle!
