Neat Story

A friend and colleague related a scary story with a heartwarming ending this week. His 92-year-old mother, who still lives on the family farm in Columbia County, was home alone recently. She lost her balance and reached out to grab a chair, but the chair turned out to be a rocking chair. Down she went with a spiral fracture just below the hip.

But, two years ago my friend had a Lifeline system installed - over his mother's objections, of course. And as he put it, 'darned if it didn't work just like it's supposed to!' She pushed the button and was connected to medical personnel who called for an ambulance and also contacted three prearranged neighbors to respond as well. In short order, she was transported to the hospital where she is recovering nicely from surgery.
