Of course you already that the Monona Festival is going on down at Winnequah Park, but you may not have heard about the new event this year: The Wife Carry at 5 pm on July 4th.
Now, don't get your knickers in a know; the contest is open to one-and-all, provided your sober, over 21, and sign a release.

The Festival Committee adjusted the rules slightly for, umm, local conditions:
- The "wife" to be carried may be your own, the neighbor’s or you may have found her farther afield; she must, however, be over 21 years of age, as should you. (Why? you ask? the first prize is BEER, that’s why) This is Dane County, she does not have to be a she, nor does the team need to be gender diverse.
- All the participants must have fun. This rule will be enforced.
- The minimum weight of the wife to be carried is 49 kilograms, but we will round that to 105 lbs, mostly because we don’t want to do the math.
- The winner will have their victory commemorated on The Monona Community Festival web site for all to see.
- The committee reserves the right to change the rules.
The Wife Carry is a big deal in Finland, among other places. The Finns also have ideas for other contests that the local folks may want to look into such as the Mobile Phone Throw!
This was fun to see, but I think next year they need to have age brackets!
