Night Draws Near: Iraq's People in the Shadow of America's War
Anthony Shadid
One of the very best of a growing number of books on the war.
On Sunday, December 10 at 2:30 pm
War Made New: Technology, Warfare, and the Course of History, 1500 to Today
Max Boot.
Don’t know anything about this one, but it sounds interesting.
On Monday, December 11 at 1:00 am 2006 Chicago Humanities Festival-
Paul Fussell.
Author Paul Fussell presents a speech entitled "The Culture of War." Although he is an English professor by trade, Paul Fussell has written some of best books on modern warfare. His memoir of WWII ‘Wartime: Understanding and Behavior in the Second World War’ is a searing account of life and death in the US Army. Unfortunately you’ll need insomnia or a TIVO to catch this one.
On Saturday, December 9 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, December 10 at 7:30 am Next
Michael Crichton
Before his last book ‘State of Fear’ I would unhesitatingly snap up a copy of the latest Crichton novel with a full expectation of a good story well told. But ‘State of Fear’ has made me wary – it was a dreadful political diatribe against the science of global warming full of charts and footnotes. I felt cheated. I’ll give him another chance, but it will be a book from the library this time.
