Green Tuesdays: Lectures & Films on Sustainability
FREE
MONONA PUBLIC LIBRARY w 6:30 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.
Next Tuesday, September 9, 2008 – Rebecca Anderson,
Director of Advocacy for Trek Bikes, will speak about the One World, Two WheelsSM project, a Trek commitment to encourage people to use bikes instead of cars for short trips.
With the world facing skyrocketing obesity rates, escalating traffic congestion, and the concerns of global climate change, the bicycle is an under-utilized solution. Trek, via One World, Two Wheels, is taking steps to alleviate the obstacles that prevent people from using bicycles for transportation, as well as recreation.
“Trek is aiming to build an army of bike advocates through our 2000-dealer network to help more people go by bike,” says Anderson. “I’m happy to be part of Green Tuesdays because I can share some of the statistics that show why biking is a simple solution to some of the world’s biggest problems.”
Green Tuesdays is the series of enlightening and entertaining lectures, films, and conversations on sustainable living brought to you by
The Natural Step Monona and the Monona Public Library.
Green Tuesdays are offered every-other-week, September through December 2.
Upcoming presenters include: Katie Ross of Seventh Generation Energy Systems on The Ecological Footprint; Tom Eggert of the UW-Madison School of Business on Business Risk and Reward in the Global Warming Era, and John Reindl, recently retired Dane County Recycling Manager, on his own waste reduction efforts.
Films include: America's Lost Landscape: The Tallgrass Prairie, The Ecological Footprint, Everything's Cool, and Natural Connections.
This program is supported by the Dane County Environmental Council.
